S&F Mission

We are working to lift Appalachian voices and skills. From our Skill Swap workshops to Junior Skill Swap youth programs, to our Smithers Community Cookbook to Smithers Creek Watch citizen science, every project is designed to connect neighbors, preserve traditions, and advocate for a healthier, stronger Upper Kanawha Valley.

Smithers & Friends Community Group, Inc. is a grassroots nonprofit in Fayette County, WV, strengthening our community through skill sharing, youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and citizen science.

Smithers Skill Swap & Jr. Skill Swap

Neighbors teaching neighbors in free or low-cost community workshops. Youth-focused workshops that empower kids and teens with hands-on learning and leadership.

A collection of recipes and stories celebrating Appalachian foodways, with proceeds supporting community programs.

Smithers Creek Watch

A citizen science project where residents monitor water quality and contribute to national platforms like SciStarter/CitSci.
